It contained 125 acres, well watered, with a convenient dwelling-house and a large barn. Also mentioned in the 1813 "FOR SALE" ad was an extensive apple orchard. He and Maria were buried in the Van Patten burial ground, Barheyt Road. They were removed to the First Reformed Dutch Churckyard Cemetery in 1962 circa 1780.

Simon served under his brother Capt. John Van Patten in the 2nd Albany
Mililtia. It is likely he was the sharpshooter who carried Claas' "Old
Hollander" flintlock into battle, a weapon prized by seven generations including Capt. Adam Conde of the Glenville Horse Artillery. It was reported that he (Simon) felled an Indian walking along the far bank of the Mohawk; quite a feat of markmanship.
