     He was born on 13 December 1863 in New York, USA.2,1,3 He was the son of Amenzo van Patten and Almira Winne.1 Eugene appears as a widow in the 1900 US census living with his father Amenzo and a daughter Ethel. It's also possible that Ethel is the daughter of Amenzo. I found no records of a marriage and he lists himself as single in all other census data I found. His obituary doesn't mention Ethel. in 1900.2 He died on 2 May 1951 in Cherry Valley, Otsego, New York, USA, at age 87. His obituary indicates that he was left partially blind from an illness contracted when he was 3 years old.4,3
