Mary Annis Chandler1,2

     Mary Annis Chandler may have been known as Mary A Leathers.3 She was born on 21 December 1844 in Oneida County, New York, USA.4,2 She married Albert John (Morgan) van Patten, son of William Henry Morgan and Laura Sibley, on 25 December 1865 in Peoria, Peoria, Illinois, USA; John's mother died shortly after his birth and since he was from a large family, he was given to Peter and Naomi to take care of. Although he met his family later in his life, he took the Van Patten family name for himself. He is mentioned in Peter's will as an adopted son and received no inheritance.5,6 She died on 6 January 1906 at age 61.7 She was buried after 6 January 1906 in Sixteen Cemetery, Thornburg, Keokuk, Iowa, USA.8

Census Information

     She and Albert John (Morgan) van Patten appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Prairie, Keokuk, Iowa, enumerated 11 June 1880. Their children Henry, Julia, George, Katherine and Peter were listed as living with them.4 She and Henry Albert van Patten appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Washington, Keokuk, Iowa, enumerated 18 June 1900. Their son Alfred was listed as living with them.9
