I also notice that the DAR referenece (2124) indicates he was born in Guilderland and died in Schenectady which is the opposite of a few other sources claim. There is a colorful story of his arrest and confinement as a Torry sympathiser (in Old Hellerbergh
) prior to his apparent military sevice noted above.5,6,4 - He died on 27 January 1790 in Guilderland, Albany, New York, USA, at age 73.4

- VAN PATTEN FAMILY BURIAL GROUND, located on the former Jeffers farm, Amsterdam Road (Rt. 5), Glenville, New York. The burial plot is situated some distance southwest of the house on the river flats under a large oak tree. Two unlettered fieldstones. Site visited August 28, 1967. This was the family burial ground of Nicholas S. Van Patten. His obituary, published in "The Schenectady Cabinet", Wednesday, July 15, 1829 reads as follows:
"DIED - - In Glenville, on Wednesday last, MR. NICHOLAS VAN PATTEN, an old and respectable citizen of that town, in the 80th year of his age".
His son, John N. Van Patten, inherited the farm and members of his family are said to be buried where the garage on the Jeffers property now stands. The farm passed out of the Van Patten family in 1848.1 - He was born before 21 October 1750 in Glenville, Albany, New York, USA.1,2

He operated a tavern on Sacandaga Turnpike known locally as "Lower Nicky's" as there were two taverns on that road run by two Nicholas Van Patten's.
