Cora Jane Lockey, the daughter of Sylvester and Alta Diggs Handy, was born July 4, 1912 in Winterset, Iowa. Cora was raised in Winterset where she received her early education.
On July 3, 1929, Cora married Orlo Ray Lockey in Spencer, Iowa. Following their marriage, they made their home in Spencer. Cora worked with her husband on the farm along with teaching her children how to do chores. Cora attended the First Christian Church in Spencer. She enjoyed dancing, fishing with Orlo, gardening and canning but most of all, Cora thoroughly enjoyed and loved her family.
Cora passed away on December 30, 2006 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 94. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orlo in 1956; her daughter, Charlotte Lockey in 2004; her granddaughter, Debra Tatman; her grandson, Steve Dotson; brothers: Frank, John, James and Charles; her sisters; Elsie, Alma and Edith; her daughter-in-law, Ardys Lockey and her brother-in-law, Burdette Lockey who helped raise her children.
She is survived by her children: Carolyn Dotson and her husband, Tom of Spencer, Joan Tatman and her husband, Irvin of Everly, Kay Harshbarger of Spencer, Bob Lockey and his fianc?, Lenore Page of Spencer, Mary Munsen and her husband, Gary of Lawton and Sandy Fodness and her husband of Spirit Lake; 16 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Fern Young and her husband Chet of Osceola; her special friend, Betty Schimdt; other relatives and friends. - [S2] "US, Social Security Death Index 1935 - 2014."
