Note: I have not yet found any confirmation of this data in on-line Civil War records. His headstone indicates he was in the 39th Kentucky Regiment but the first record of action for the 39th Regiment was in November of 1862, after William was reported killed.³
He died on 29 June 1862 in Pound River, Wise, Virginia, USA, at age 42.²
