Salina (Page) Starkey
1869 - 1941
She was born on 16 October 1869 in Clarinda, Page, Iowa, USA.5,6,1,3,2,4,7 She was the daughter of Stephen M Page and Permelia Adams.1,3,4 She was born in 1871. Since she is listed in the 1870 Census in Iowa, I am sure that this is incorrect.8 She married Albert L Stringfellow on 14 May 1889 in Claremont, Elbert, Colorado, USA. The city is listed as Claremone in the typed record, it may be a transcription error from an earlier handwritten version but it's probably an error, I can't find any record of a Claremone, Colorado. I think this part of Elbert County became Kit Carson County around 1900. I believe the town of Claremont became Stratton at some point but I haven't found any specific record of the change. I did see a document from the city of Stratton that referred to the city as 'Stratton (Formerly Claremont)'.2,9,10 On 26 May 1891 Salina Page obtained a land patent for 160 acres of land under the Cash Entry Act of 24 Apr 1820. That act reduced the minimum price of public land to $1.25 per acre, and the minimum purchase to 80 acres, but required payment in cash, not on credit. Her tract was described as the SW¼, section 5, township 9S, range 46W of the 6th PM. Certificate number 2444. Salina obtained the land under her maiden name (Page) which suggests the marriage to Albert Stringfellow was short lived. This land is quite close to Stratton, Colorado where I believe she was married 2 years earlier. I found a document indicating Stratton was formerly Claremont, Colorado.11 She married George Lorenzo Starkey, son of Andrew B Starkey and Mary Frances Huntley, circa 1897. 1900 Census indicates they were married 3 years.2 After July 1900 Salina Page lived , Ponoka, Ponoka, Alberta, Canada.12 The family (George, Salina, Glenn and Mable) arrived in San Francico on the steamship Umatilla. The passenger list indicates their intended destination was Los Angeles. on 11 January 1905.13 She died on 15 January 1941 in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada, at age 71.7,14,15,16 She was buried after 15 January 1941 in Wetaskiwin Cemetery, Wetaskiwin, Edmunton, Alberta, Canada.17

Census Information

She appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of East River, Page, Iowa, USA, in the household of her parents, Stephen M Page and Permelia Adams.1 She appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Polk Twp, Taylor, Iowa, in the household of her parents, Stephen M Page and Permelia Adams.3 She appeared on the 1885 Iowa State Census of Range 35 Section 15 NE NW, Polk Twp, Taylor, Iowa, USA, in the household of her parents, Stephen M Page and Permelia Adams.18 She and George Lorenzo Starkey appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Benkelman, Dundy, Nebraska, enumerated June 1900. Their children Earl and Cecil were listed as living with them.2

Albert L Stringfellow
Marriage*She married Albert L Stringfellow on 14 May 1889 in Claremont, Elbert, Colorado, USA. I did see a document from the city of Stratton that referred to the city as 'Stratton (Formerly Claremont)'.2,9,10
