He was commissioned a Captain in the Union Army. He was shot and killed by snipers. Note: I have not yet found any confirmation of this data in on-line Civil War records. His headstone indicates he was in the 39th Kentucky Regiment but the first record of action for the 39th Regiment was in November of 1862, after William was reported killed.3 He died on 29 June 1862 in Pound River, Wise, Virginia, USA, at age 42.2

     She appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Polk Twp, Taylor, Iowa, in the household of her parents, John Quincy Adams and Thursa Jane Kent.1 She and Geroge Berton Campbell appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Denver, Adams, Nebraska, enumerated 13 June 1900. Their son John was listed as living with them.3
