    Samuel attended Union College and Albany Law School. He practiced law at Wells River Vermont and at Warren, Concord, and Woodsville NH. Succesively he was legal representative from Warren, Concord, and Haverhill NH and member of the constitutional convention in NH in 1876. He participated in the great debate in the RR contest. On June 17, 1874 he presided over the assembly on the occasion of the unveiling of the Hannah Dustin monument on Contoocook Island near Concord, NH. Samuel probably did not know that his ancestral uncle Onesiphorus Marsh harbored the Dustin children in this episode. circa 1860.
