Mrs. Marsh was born on July 23, 1929, in Lillian, Va., and lived her early years in Miskimon, Va., where she was a member of Providence Baptist Church. She graduated from Lively High School in 1947 and later attended Madison College.
Mrs. Marsh lived in Gloucester Courthouse since 1956, where as a member of Newington Baptist Church she sang in the choir and loved volunteering as a member of the Women's Missionary Society and the Food Closet distributing food for the needy. She was also a past member of the Gloucester Volunteer Rescue Squad and was a devoted volunteer at the Sanders Nursing Home. Mrs. Marsh retired from Crestar Bank in 1990.
Her parents, Thornton J. and Mildred Martha Crabbe Sampson, and her brother, Jackson Sampson, preceded Mrs. Marsh in death.
Her loving survivors include her son, John D. Marsh Jr. and his wife, Peggy, of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; two daughters, Nancy Marsh Smith and her husband, Mark, of Fresco, Texas, and Marguerite Marsh Baker and her husband, Andrew, of Perkasie, Pa.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 7, in Newington Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Gray. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Miskimon, Va. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Bay Aging Gloucester Adult Day Care, P.O. Box 610, Urbanna, VA 23175, or to the Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 1417, Gloucester, VA 23061.

Mr. Marsh was born Nov. 29, 1928, in Miskimon, Va., where he was a member of Providence Baptist Church. He graduated from Lively High School in Lively, Va., and served in the Army during the Korean War.
He married Elizabeth Ann Sampson of Miskimon and they lived and raised their family in Gloucester Courthouse. He was a deacon at Newington Baptist Church and retired from GTE Telephone Co. in 1992.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Sampson Marsh, and his parents, Caroll and Beulah Marsh of Miskimon.
He is survived by son, John Daniel Marsh Jr. and his wife, Peggy, and their children, John, Ben, Elizabeth, David and Brian, of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; two daughters, Nancy M. Smith and her husband, Mark, and their children, Erin and Ryan, and great-grandson, Brian, of Frisco, Texas; and Marguerite M. Baker and her husband, Andrew, and their children, Rachel and Benjamin, of Perkasie, Pa.; a brother, Randal L. Marsh and his wife, Francis, of Lively, Va.; and his sisters, Inez Marsh of Miskimon and Shirley Winter and her husband, David, of McLean, Va.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Andrews Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 6, in Newington Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Gray. Burial services will be conducted by the Rev. Millsap at 2:30 p.m. in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Miskimon, Va.
Memorial donations may be made to either Providence Baptist Church in Miskimon, Va., or to Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue.
