He initially served 5 days following the Alarm of April 19, 1775 and later from 1777 through 1781 in various capacities.4 He died on 30 June 1800 in Methuen, Essex, Massachusetts, USA.5,6 He was buried after 30 June 1800 in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen, Essex, Massachusetts, USA. James's burial location is not known, there is a monument honoring Revolutionary War veterans that are buried in the cemetery. His birth and death dates are missing from the monument which suggests to me that he may not actually be buried in that cemetery although his wife Hannah is buried there.7
