WATERLOO - Cecil L. Poyner, 87, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, March 24, at Allen Hospital.
He was born March 28, 1921, in Poyner Township, son of Fyrol and Merle (Hull) Poyner. He married Mardean Elaine Lockey on June 14, 1942, in Yuma, Ariz. She died April 27, 1988.
He attended East High School and received his diploma in 1999 with other World War II veterans. Mr. Poyner was a supervisor at John Deere, retiring in 1982 after 35 years.
While in the military, he served as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division in France, Belgium, Germany and Austria in World War II. He had volunteered with Cedar Valley Hospice since 1988.
Survived by: three sons, Russell (Kathy) and Darwin (Kathy), both of Waterloo, and Cecil of Cedar Falls; two daughters, DeAnna (Roger) Lane and Rita (Dusty) Kehoe, both of Waterloo; 16 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: his parents; his wife; a brother, Robert; and two sisters, Betty Foss and Virginia Bodenstein.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace Brethren Church, with burial in Poyner Township Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and VFW Post 1623. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home.
Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
