She was born in Columbus, Ohio, on Aug. 30, 1922, to Walter and Carrie Gerhart of Marietta, Ohio. She graduated from Ohio State University in 1944 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Human Ecology.
  Barbara is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Mary Ann Van Petten of Gaithersburg, Md; daughter Sue Van Petten of Prescott, Ariz; and daughter and son-in-law Mary Beth and Scott Shaub of North Potomac, Md. She is also survived by her sister Frances Burdette of Prescott, Ariz.
  A private family and friends celebration of Barbara's life will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2008, at her home in Prescott. A brief spiritual memorial will take place at 1:30 p.m.
  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local Humane Society or to Prescott Heritage Park Zoo.
  Arizona Ruffner-Wakelin Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.¹
