Waneta Wilson, 94, life long Council Grove resident, died Thursday, November 27, 2003 at the Council Grove Healthcare Center in Council Grove. The daughter of Curtis and Hallie Carr Christian, Waneta was born in Council Grove on October 2, 1909 and was graduated from Council Grove High School. Waneta’s work experiences include working at Fairmont Creamery, A.S.C.S. Office, Herington Sale Barn in Council Grove, the Treasurer’s Office and bookkeeper at Wilson Seed Center. She was also a farm wife and raised her family on the family farm. She was a member of the Council Grove Christian Church, Fidelis Club at the Church and the Twin Lakes Car Club. Her marriage to Leslie A. “Alvin” Wilson was on November 20, 1929 in Council Grove. He preceded her in death on September 5, 1993. Also preceding her in death were her parents, a son L.A. Wilson, Jr. on April 21, 1998, two grandsons; Radford Wilson on September 14, 2000 and Brian Wilson on September 25, 2003, 2 sisters and 3 brothers. She is survived by: 2-Sons: John Wilson and wife Nelda, Council Grove, KS Jim Wilson and wife Carolyn, Council Grove, KS 1-Daughter: Susan Osborne and husband Rex, Council Grove, KS 1-Brother: Harold Christian, Garland, TX 8-Grandchildren 19-Great Grandchildren 3-Great-Greaat Grandchildren Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 29, 2003 at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory Council Grove Chapel with interment to follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Mrs. Wilson will lie in state at the funeral home from 9:00 AM until 8:00 pm Friday. The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Council Grove Christian Church or to the Council Grove Senior Center.
