Lillian Rae Lowrey, 81, of Nebraska City, died on Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at the Ambassador in Nebraska City. She was born on June 7, 1927, to John and Rita (Slosson) Baker. Lillian and her twin sister, Vivian, were the first set of twins born at St. Mary's Hospital in Nebraska City.
Lillian graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1945. On June 23, 1946, Lillian and Harold F. Lowrey were married at the United Methodist Church in Nebraska City.
As a homemaker, "Lil" lived in Nebraska City and Auburn before moving back to Nebraska City in 2002. She was a 62-year member of the Presbyterian Church, a 50+ year member combined between the Queen Esther Chapter #1 Order of Eastern Star in the Nebraska City Chapter and the Ada Chapter of Auburn. She received her Eastern Star 50-year pin in 1996. She was Worthy Matron of the Nebraska City Chapter and an officer for 27 years and a member of the Sat-ra #59 Daughters of the Nile for 29 years and an officer for two years.
Lillian and Harold raised and showed miniature horses for many years. She was a member of the AMHA and AMHR, both miniature horse associations. She enjoyed traveling and making new friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Myrtle Keith, brother Capt. Donnie Baker, sister-in-law Doris Hobbie, and brothers-in-law Gene Lowrey and Don Hobbie.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Harold, of Nebraska City; sons Bill and wife Dora Mae of Omaha, Frank and wife Doris and Bob and wife Judy, all of Auburn; six grandchildren, Pat Lowrey and Paula Rae Wieck, both of Omaha, Stephanie Lingenfelter of Mt. Vernon, Mo., Jay Lowrey of Weslaco, Texas, Bobette Guenther of Auburn and Laura Lea Fossenbarger of Johnson; nine great-grandchildren; twin sister Vivian Stierwalt and sister Marian Shutt, both of Merced, Calif.; sister-in-law Billie Lowrey of Redding, Calif.; nieces, nephews, and many, many friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Nebraska City, with burial to follow at the Wyuka Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lillian's grandsons Pat and Jay Lowrey, Jeff Fossenbarger, John Guenther, Brent Wieck, and Stan Lingenfelter.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association -Midlands Chapter in Omaha or the Presbyterian Church of Nebraska City or Auburn.
Service is entrusted to Peterson Mortuary in Nebraska City.
