Official records indicate he left service on Oct 12 1862 but witnesses indicate that he served until the end of the war.6 He and Nancy Calhoun appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Christie Creek, Rowan, Kentucky, USA, enumerated 11 June 1870. Their children John, Sarah, James, Thomas, Louisa, Maria, Mary, Amanda and William were listed as living with them.5 Jacob Hargis and Nancy Calhoun appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Christie Creek, Rowan, Kentucky, enumerated 1 June 1880. Their children James, Thomas, Mary, Amanda, William, Florence, Robert and Harve were listed as living with them.7 Jacob Hargis died on 14 October 1915 in Rowan, Kentucky, USA, at age 87.2 He was buried after 14 October 1915 in Alfrey Cemetery, Morehead, Rowan, Kentucky, USA.8
